Filmmaking Camp

Youth Filmmaking Camp is offered at the Riekes Center in Menlo Park.

Ages 9 - 17

Create, collaborate, and premiere your own films.

At the Riekes Center, filmmaking is all about having fun and bringing your wildest ideas to life. In this hands-on camp, students of all skill levels team up to write, film, and edit their own original projects. It’s a week of creativity, laughter, and high-energy storytelling.

The Crew And Story

Under guidance from our filmmaking staff, campers work in groups to decide and create the stories they want to tell! Whether it’s an action flick or a comedy, students get to experience everything from pre-production, production, and post production.

  • Ages 9–13: Students gain confidence handling professional gear, trying out acting, and making awesome movies with their peers in a supportive environment.

  • Ages 14+ (Leadership Track): Under direct mentorship from our filmmaking staff, they’ll dive deep into industry leading editing software and gain skills in professional lighting and sound.

The Friday Showcase

The best part of the week? The premiere! On Friday, we invite friends and family to watch the films the groups have created. It’s a chance for every student to show off a project they are truly proud of.

Advanced Teen Internships

Experienced teen filmmakers (15+) can apply to be a Visual Arts Intern. Work with our staff to mentor younger campers and gain leadership experience. For more info, email our Visual Arts Director, Julio Deras, jderas@riekes.org.
